article

For my choice topic I read an article about hemp by Lawerence Wilson, MD. I read about the history, the uses, the ban, in paper, and in America. To me hemp seems like a great option to use to "go green". This article opened my eyes to how much more I think governemnt is corrupt. We wouldnt have to "go green" if our founding fathers didnt base everything on money. Our world would have stayed green and the some of pollutates that our in our atmosphere now wouldnt be here.
The uses for hemp are numerous. the common misconsception is exactly that with hemp, a misconsception. There is no THC in hemp, it is just a great product that becuase of industrialists was squashed. Hemp can be used in alsmot all aspects of our productions. The most interesting fact I learned from this article was that greed and misguided government action lead to the hemp ban bakc in 1937.

choice topic

So this weekend I went to starscape festival 2010. It was a huge outdoor music festival that sold out with over 10,000 people in a park in Maryland. It was an amzaing experience and really got me in the summer mood. It was a gorgeous day out, the sun and music were blaring, and the people were crazier then ever. Everyone was dressed in whatever they wanted to wear, feeling good, jamming out. I really love music and to be able to listen to a whole bunch of great artists is amazing and a great feel good experience. I got to see one of my favorite artists, Pretty Lights, and he put on an amazing experience. The light show was out of this world and there was a helicopter circling the show. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. It makes me very exctied for summer and the future because it is full of endless possibilites.

current event article

The article I read about was on new findings that the Titanic's design was faulty. This article stating that the Titanic could have very well sunk in a storm simply because of the faulty design. A team paired with the History Channel and Lone Wolf Documentary group discovered that Titanic broke at a very shallow angle. An angle that ships could be subject to if hit by a large storm. Due to the fact that the Titanic sank at such a low angle these scientists proposed that the design of the stern was faulty and even if it had not hit an iceberg if Titanic had run into a large storm the same scenerio would have happened and the ship would have been split in two. To test the scientists theory they ventured to Titanic's sister ship the Britannic to see her design. The evidence they found to support their idea that Titanic's design was faulty is that the Britannic had two extra expansion joint near the stern. To the scientists this suggests that the company building the ships must have known Titanic's design was a bit faulty so they added the two extra expansion joints to the Brittanic. This is a valid conclusion because btoh ships were built in the same yard by the same company yet one design was changed.

my topic week #2

So fourth quarter in my senior year. Because I was a semi-slacker all year i really need to push myself during this last quarter. I have like 6 projects to do right now and I need to get my grades up in like every class. I hopefully can get this accomplished through getting A's on the rest of my homeworks and projects for the year. I am very nervous about AP psychology because I have an F and my final test is 100 questions and I dont remember like any specific facts throughout the year. I really hope I can get all my grades up the way Id like to at least all Cs. I am very excited for old dominion and the college experience and at this point I would be devastated if my acceptance got recalled.

article

The article I read was by an op-ed columnist in the New York Times. This an opinion peace directed to Obama supporters. This article is discussing Obama's pick to serve on the Supreme Court, Elena Kagan. The article is discussing the real side of Elena Kagan's life. How she is a single girlie-girl living and dating in the city. It discussed her education and demeanor in her college years. I think this article was a good one that showed the positive side of the female Supreme court justice nomine.

4th quarter

So senior year 4th quarter finally! No more high school. No more people yelling in the hallways. No more getting in trouble for normal daily things like a cell phone or going out to lunch. No more being treated like im young just becuase I was surrounded by immature students! I am so glad to be almost out and going to odu :) I really didnt enjoy high school whatsoever. I am glad that it is almost behind me!! Lets see the things I didnt like about high school, besides cheerleading and friends everything. The hours are ridiculous, the atmosphere is juvenile, the gossip is pointless, and most of the teachers piling busy work that is completely different from the college work. Why does high school "prepare" you for college yet the way you learn in college is completely different? Stupid stupid and more stupid. ;)

#5

This editoral is stemmed from Tom Hanks and his new series depicting ww2 as all about race and racism. This article talks about how Tom has it depicted wrong and although racism played a huge part Americans werent fully against all those in Asia. In fact the article talks about how in some parts we liberated. hanks says ww11 had a racist motive and that so does the war on terrorism. I thought this editoral was unique because it involved a celebrity and his real thoughts instead of fluff.

editorial 4

This editorial is discussing the increase in federal employees, their pay raises and compares the federal employment to LBJ's time when the federal government had more employees. This article criticizes the federal government for spending more in the recession and not cutting back like the rest of the country has felt they have had to do. The president's director of the Office of Personnel Management,John Berry, is quoted throughout the article as a good source for inside a few aspects of the government. What stuck out to me in this article was the desk employees who have abused the privileges of their job, gotten more money for it, and yet only a slap on the wrist for taking advantage.

#3

This editorial is all about a bill to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration. This bill would basically ground Fedex express who does over 85% of their business in the air. The editorial discusses that Fedex does emergency medical deliveries and how a huge portion of the entire nation deepnds on Fedex express. I thought it was interesting that the House wuold even consider basically banning Fedex from the air when so many people rely on the mail that is transfered in the air. All packages, envelopes, and mail would be slowed down by this bill. I think that Fedex should be allowed in the air.

editorial 2

This editorial is about hand-gun bans. This article discusses the insights learned the the D.C. hand-gun bun. The article discusses how everywhere that has enacted a hand gun ban the crime ban has increased instead of decreased as promised. This article describes instances where the murder rates rose when the hand-gun ban was in effect and fell immediately when the ban was lifted. This article gives you insight to see that law-abiding citizens hold handguns, not criminals and when you take away their right to bare a hand gun you lessen their freedom you lessen safety. I enjoyed this article because it was short sweet and to the point. I think it was very interesting that the government in different places purpose in banning hand guns to lessen violence but really it had the opposite effect.

editorial 1

This editorial is about air safety and states incidents where in some cases people have died simply because pilots weren't doing their job correctly. It discusses the no "un-job related" talking under 10,000 feet and the new debate if cock-pits conversations should be checked more regularly. The conversations are only checked when there is an accident. This article states some specific incidents and what the pilots were talking about when the accident occurred. In one case the pilots were on their laptops. The end of the article discussed National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration and Congress in enacting recording the pilots conversations. My opinion of the editorial is that pilots should be monitored irregularly. I think this because in some cases pilots have killed passengers due to negligence.

political cartoon

This political cartoon was published in the Buffalo News on 1/22/2010 by Adam Zyglis. Titled the Supreme Court Decision. This political cartoon is discussing the overturn of the supreme court decision that recently happened in washington. Basically says that now corporations will be able to buy elections because there is now no spending limit for the amount you can donate to a campaign. I dont agree with this decision at all because buying elections doesnt elect the right official into office. I really hate to see the next election and enormous amounts of money being spent on it when there are so many people in the world who need help.

your choice

For my choice I will discuss the book I am currently reading / my favorite author and upcoming movies. The book I am reading is the last song by Nicholas Sparks, so far it hasnt gotten very interesting but I love his North Carolina style he writes in. The movie based on his book Dear John is coming out on February 5th and it looks pretty good. And of course it doesnt hurt that Channing Tatum plays the main boy in it:) I also enjoy his costar because I have seen other movies with her in them. Alice in Wonderland also comes out on Februaury 5th and I am VERY excited to see that also because it looks like it is going to be CRAZY! I want to read Dear John again before I see the movie becuase it can be entertaining to compare, plus I kind of forget what happens because I read everyone of his books:)

2010 economy

I think that in this coming economy for the next decade that thigns will get worse before they get better. I think that the US will have to get the international debt situation undercontrol before we get rid of our economic debt within our country. I think that Obama has good plans for us to improve our economy as far as jobs and the universal healthcare bill. I think that his plans will lead us on the right path for this new year/ decade.

political cartoon #5

This political cartoon is by Pat Bagley and was published in the Salt Lake Tribune 1/8/2010. Titled Police. This politcal cartoon is telling you how important and thankful citizens should be for our law enforcement officers. I think this politcal cartoon is trying to get the viewer to appreciate those who serve us on a constant basis a bit more.

holiday decorations

I think holiday decorations are annoying in general. I think that holiday decorations in public are perfectly acceptable though, as long as everyone feels that they can do decorations that represent their faith. I think that holiday decorations are usually all surrounding christmas which i could see as frustrating for other religions. I think that holiday decorations are merly put up by stores as advertisement and we all know that stores will do whatever it takes to bring the customers in. I see decorations as that is how business are attracting customers during the holiday season.

favorite holiday

My favorite holiday is fourth of july. This is my favorite holiday because it is during the carefree time of the summer and my birthday is the day after. I like 4th of july because it is just like i have a two day party for my birthday. I like this holiday because everyone is happy and just enjoying the day celebrating independence in whichever way they choose. I love the fireworks on fourth of july, no other holiday usually has fireworks.

political cartoon 4

This political cartoon is called the Last Decade by John Darkow. It was posted on 12/31/09 in the Columbia Daily Tribune. This cartoon has 2009 burying the last decades major events to put them to rest for the new "baby" of 2010.2010 is cynical in saying that even with all the disasters in the last decade with all the future problems ahead of the nation well look back being thankful for the last decade.

political cartoon 3

I chose the political cartoon security 2010 by Frederick Deligne. It was published 1/1/10 This politcal cartoon portrays the future for security in airports and mocking it by saying you'll have to show them everything you have to prove your not a terrorist. This cartoon is letting the public know how invasive security has become/ will become. I like the point of this political cartoon, it is right on target. B/c of 9/11 and other instancese airport security can take over 3 hours and you are subject to be a random person who is fully searched. I overheard a radio talk show discussing the new policies on an airline about how the passengers could not even have a jacket in their laps and couldnt access any entertainment or snack/drink. I think the overboard security is what Americans answers to the terrorist attacks were but in reality no ones wants to be subject to this searching.
